// The BBC is the mouthpiece of the British Government, and influenced by the Foreign Office. //
well OK some moolah DOES come from the foreign office for foreign news monitoring
but the average foreign office man-thar=een ( mandarin ) reading this would exclaim
" rip off ! we want our money back - we pay and the Beeb goes on its own sweet way!"

PP,
The Government always has the thumb screws on the BBC because it controls the License Fee, so can threaten to withdraw the BBCs funding.
That is not to say the BBC tows the Government line domestically. Governments are ephemeral, and the next one will say something entirely different. So the BBC tries to be impartial of party politics.
But its worldview is guided by the Foreign Office.

PP,
The short version is that the FO decides our relationship with other countries, and the BBC is its method of diseminating that view.
For example, the Saudis’ bloody war in Yemen is hardly ever reported because the FO regards them as a key ally. But Syria is/was widely reported because Assad is regarded as an enemy of the UK.
