I briefly watched one of these programmes last night and I was baffled as to why someone had gone to the trouble of making a TV show about nothing much. That's the way it was then, in those years, but it aint now. What's the point?
I see what you mean, Squad, but the fact is, as I've said, that was then, this is now. The era that we live in, is just that. In the future, people could look back to the present time and find fault with it, and I'm sure they will. But, hey ho. Let's go!
It's there to exagerate how awful things were then compared to our glorious enlightened now. But if you lived through it you know that even if times get harder and easier in cycles, these decades were fine. Every period of time has issues, but one doesn't make a song and dance about it; and normal folk don't criticise what was ok, pretending it was wrong, anyway.
I think its history now, and as such can be interesting, also if you lived through an era, sometimes its fun to look back and see if your recall matches the program.
I think it depended on your finances, there were good things about those decades the music, for one but there was still violence, child abuse was covered up, and people died of things we can cure now. I could look back and convince myself they were happy times but in truth for many of the women I grew up with they were very difficult.
