If not, then It would seem that it is okay to have grotesque white puppets, but not black ones.

She didn't force him, she asked him to put it away.
No I don't think she was being over sensitive at all.
Yes, a LOT over sensitive, but it's par for the course these days anyway ...
A bit over sensitive there, yes - didn't he take it well though, nice man.
She was simply being Kate Garraway....
If she was going to feel uncomfortable with the puppet she could have asked for him to leave it in his dressing room.
I think it is unreasonable to invite someone to discuss a Punch And Judy Show, and then decide that one of its puppets is 'racist' because it resembles a blackface character, which did not appear in popular culture until more than three hundred years later.

Tricia Goddard sounded foolish, when told that the character had been around since 1642, saying "So have the Black And White Minstrels!" which is patently absurd.

I think the Professor was criticised unfairly for his 'racist' puppet, and I feel that the debate was centred around putting modern morality on ancient handed-down cultural history, which is always an argument doomed to failure.

As the Professor pointed out, no-one is censoring the violence, racism and sexism in Shakespeare, but that is simply cultural snobbery.
Muppets host Punch and Judy man ...
Kate Garraway offends me,can’t stand her.
Some see ITVs breakfast news as a budget freakshow and rest home for the bewildered.

If you found the white puppets offensive you could always complain by phoning them, emailing them or writing to them.

It was offensive also ugly so better to take off screen as people were eating their breakfasts and it also could have terrified and children watching.
I suspect there are fairytales and children's cartoons that are scarier...
Fed up with all this seeking and finding offence in anything and everything. Offence seekers need to get over themselves.
//people were eating their breakfasts and it also could have terrified and children watching.//

If an ugly puppet would put someone off their breakfast or terrify their children, they should be living in a bubble somewhere.
Do we really need a long link posted. I'm sure we could all find it ourselves if needed.
;
Maybe they should try guest presenters.
I'm thinking Arthur Bostrom to kick it off: Good Moaning Britain.

Oh what a delicious idea! I don't watch the programme - never seen it - but if he were at the helm I'd change my habits!
A discussion on breakfast TV? C’mon people.....it’s not meant to be Panorama is it! It’s airy fairy cobblers meant to fill up a TV slot.
I think the accepted term is 'gay bootmakers', Zoom.
Chrissy - // It was offensive also ugly so better to take off screen as people were eating their breakfasts and it also could have terrified and children watching. //

Which part of it did you find offensive and ugly?
-- answer removed --
Chrissy22 has possibly posted the most pointless post of the week.

It is ridiculous to suggest children would have been terrified and equally ridiculous that people would have been put off their breakfast.

It really irritates me the way people censor old things using modern morality - this is akin to the morons at Manchester University covering up Kipling's If last week.
