I liked that song and have tried to find out what it is with no success. Something along the lines of "they'd give me the gold cup for being the biggest fool of all"
I tried to find the song, but I failed miserably.

Here is a link to the programme, maybe you will be able to find the song, some of the words in the lyrics were hard to understand.

The only song that is mentioned as far as I can see is, Burn The Witch by Queens of the Stone Age.
Is it this?

Think this was the song but......it was just after wartime and sung by a woman as a soul type song. Will investigate further. Could not hear all the words on the TV episode.

loved the song 50's era i think, so far have not been able to find a match on lyric search websites,
the lyrics were...
If they gave a prize For the biggest fool of all For the broken-hearted lover Who took the biggest fall They'd give me the gold cup Yes, the gold cup For believing all those lies were true Just give me the gold cup That beautiful gold cup And I'd trade it For one kiss from you.

hope this helps

Not a female singer but this is the song.
Well done, wonder if Al Hazan wrote it, he was known as mystery man.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Hazan

B Bumble (of Stingers) fame
Nice cover from Dudley Duncan here too

ooops Al is also Duncan.
Ohhh this B Bumble then, Mamya.
Aye, he was busy but secretive at times.
Had his fingers in a few pies then.
A Twitter post by the production company states:

The song that played at the end of Episode 2 is Gold Cup by Rod Lowell.

Thank you HC4361 and sunnysammut.
I started this question and now have the final answer! I to got in touch with the makers of the series in Canada and they said it was Al Hazan and he did write it and sung it in 1961. I knew it was not him singing it and you are absolutely correct it is Rod Lowell. Why I was first unsure was that the series was supposed to be circa mid fifties and the song was not performed until some years later which was why I was looking for a 1950s blues singer. Anyway we got there and thanks everyone for their contribution.

Glad you can finally sleep at night, moggie. :D
I would think that is the only website that you can find it on. I tried shazam and I also tried Spotify, on both it shows 'Unknown track' Enjoy
It was an interesting one to research, glad you got a result in the end.
