I question the wisdom of putting it on right after Eastenders. People who's brains are attuned to the TV equivalent of blended food are obviously going to struggle with complex storylines and multisyllabic words.
I managed about 2 minutes before i decided that bleak house was indeed bleak. And yes, i know i should have given it longer but quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered.
I love it. I've never read anything by Dickens although I am well aware of Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol so I decided to try it. It has a very brooding atmosphere and the acting is great. The fact that it is hard to fathom is part of its appeal, it keeps me wondering about Lady Dedlock's past, Miss Somerson's past, Mr Jarndyce's past, Mr Guppy's motives, Mr Tulkinghorn's motives, Mr Krook's motives etc. The BBC does this thing brilliantly and long may it continue.
I've read the book and even I'm getting confused! It's very enjoyable though. Not too sure about some of the zippy camera work but Dennis Lawson's doleful eyes are a treat.
