This duty extends beyond the school gates and is regardless of whether the pupils are wearing a uniform or not. Quite how teachers and headteachers can be expected to discharge that responsibility when just about every sanction they ever had has been removed from their armoury is anybody’s guess. But that is another question for another day.
Nonetheless most people look to the school to moderate their pupils’ behaviour whilst they are on school business – and this includes travelling to and from the site. Any decent school will be aware of their responsibilities will try their best to discharge them. The trouble is the number of decent schools is declining rapidly.
Perhaps the school in “corrie” is one of the few decent ones left!
my headmaster was very much into drumming into us we were ambassadors of the school when in uniform and that while we wear it we had to make the school look good, so any naughtiness while wearing it was not allowed.
However, I am talking 12 years ago when i left school. How many of the other answers from people saying their heads were similar minded are recent headmasters and ones of 10- 30 years ago. Maybe recently Heads dont care as they are competing with knives, anti social behaviour, drug use and other problems within school times to give a stuff about dealing with the stuff outside the school.
If your head does make an effort what year are we talking about?
