What becomes of Sam in Lord of the Rings ... is there a follow up book?

WARNING ::: SPOILERS ::: I got into a debate yesterday lunchtime regarding Lord of The Rings .. I have only seen the films. I started the book when I was younger but didn't get much past them meeting Stryker - but an ex colleague who was very into the books led me to believe that after Lord of The Rings finished, there is a follow up book - and explained Sam also went West ... after he had been married and had little baby hobbits ... he explained that he had to because he had also been a ring keeper, if only for a short amount of time. Can anyone tell me if this is correct, or was the coffee so bad in the last place I worked that I have hallucinated all of this ...cheers!

In the appendix to the lord of the rings (in book 3) it is described how Sam and Rosie have many baby hobbits, Sam becomes mayor and then in the end he goes into the west too. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this, I'm sure someone will come along and tell you some more :)

Oh and btw he goes west because he has been a ringbearer like your friend says. If you don't want to read the books (even though they are excellent) but would like to read a bit about Sam, then you can read the part about Sam in the appendix.

GAB kaktus. You are quite correct Sam does go into the west, as being a ringbearer extends his life well beyond Rosie.
