What Do You Think About The Practice Of Online Public Shaming?
9 Answers
- Do you think we are too quick to condemn people and organizations on the internet? Or is engaging in criticism an essential part of digital citizenship today?
- Have you ever participated in a social media pile on or been the subject of one? If so, what was it like and how did it make you feel?
- Do you believe people can change? Have your own views or beliefs about something ever changed? If so, what changed and what prompted your transformation?
- Do you think it’s fair to judge someone based on his or her thoughts or actions as a teenager? Should adolescents be held to the same standards as adults? Why or why not?
- What’s it like to be a teenager in today’s culture of online public shaming? Do you fear being ostracized for your beliefs or values by your community or society at large? Are you more thoughtful about the things you read and post online? Are you ever worried that something you say or do will end up on the internet and come back to haunt you later in life?
- What do you think about the practice of digital shaming? Do you agree that it prevents people, especially teenagers, from being able to learn, grow and change? Or, does it help us question our beliefs and teach us to be more thoughtful about our words and actions?
- Over all, do you think online public shaming makes our society better or worse? Why do you think so?

I'm not sure what a social media pile is, but if it's anything like heamorrhoids i'm glad i've not been involved in one.
Yes absolutely. Even just this morning my views on a political issue changed due to debate.
Yes adolescence should be held to the same standards as adults because they will soon be one. In some cases all ready are one.
No idea, i'm sure all teenagers feel differently, some will be the public shamers some will be shamed by the public. Aint a one glove fits all thing.
I'm not worried about what i say on the internet, i am anonymous and most are. those who aren't bring it on themselves for putting themselves in the public eye.
i think digital shaming is good for things that people need to be aware of, such as pedophile gags or local issues in local areas like dog thiefs etc.. but when people share photos of homeless with captions like "get out my town" i think that is horrendous.
People feel people should be shamed for things that they should in fact be protected and helped for.
And no, i don't agree with online public shaming, but i also don't disagree with it. Kepp yourself to yourself and you'll live a peaceful life.
