Troops go where their commanders dictate, so it is grossly unfair to call them dodgers.

Absolutely Danny.

I'd never come across the term 'D-Day Dodgers' supposedly linked to Nancy Astor.

I can't imagine such condescention from anyone who's seen active service.

Or can I?
''She served in Parliament as a representative of the Conservative Party for Plymouth Sutton until 1945, when she was persuaded to step down.''

from '' interesting facts about Nancy Astor. ''

It's not proof that she said it, but timing certainly is coincidental.

Anyone who thinks that servicemen were D-Day Dodgers because they were fighting in Burma or Italy needs their bumps felt.
Have you never heard We're The D-Day Dodgers sung to the tune of Lili Marlene?
Next year we'll be having the 75th Anniversary of the 'end of WW2', in May rather than August when it really ended. Hopefully something will also happen in August.
Question Author
Zebo, I haven't, though I have heard of the singer despite my young years ;-)
Question Author
Dietrich that is!
