On BBC2 this evening it appears that an American woman has spent 15 years filming dolphins playing. Why? Did I miss something or did the programme say what benefit there will be from this research?

She obviously loves dolphins. Who doesn't?
Is this the first one you watched? They've filmed other animals as well?

What I watched it was showing what they learnt from playing.

Yes, I agree it's a fascinating programme but to the dolphins (and other animals) it's just inate behaviour. They don't realise they're learning from play so why has this woman wasted 15 years just watching them? Nice work if you can get it !!!
I think at the rate that some animals are becoming endangered it could prove very useful.

Can't say I'm that bothered about 'em tbh.
Studying animal ehavior is not new and I think it's important we understand them better before we lose even more species.
