I don't normally bother watching films on TV any longer, its pretty obvious that producers have one goal in mind, to cram as much violence in as possible in the hope of capturing an audience.

In view of what's been happening in the news over the last few weeks, out of curiosity I watched what I knew would be a violent film, ( Dog Eat Dog ) Nicolas Cage, and it didn't disappoint as regards to the appalling violence at the very beginning, of a knife stabbing frenzy, along with a shooting, and the violence continued throughout the whole film.

The other film also I watched was ( The November man ) Pierce Bronson, again relied on knife stabbing, and continued violence. Is it a case of, you make your own bed, so sleep in it?
Also I think that Mary Whitehouse back in 1963/64 was very advanced in her thoughts, and condemned / opposing such violence on TV. These films are not doing us any favours getting violence into the minds of already unbalanced individuals, are they?? Your thoughts would be welcome.

Teacake44 you are correct in your opinions re violent tv and films. People will argue with you and quote various statistical nonsense. The fact is monkey see monkey do. Though it does depend upon the monkey. Exposure to the sickening carp peddled as entertainment devalues moral integrity, and desensitisation is inevitable, I emphasis to some, people.

13.21 they have little else to offer, but blood and guts = no talent for film making.
If you are asking have there been instances of deranged individuals emulating fiction in some way, I'd have to say - Yes.

People have also copied dangerous stunts on TV shows - hence 'Don't try this at home'.

What would your solution be?
Teacake, you are entitled to your opinion, of course - but your statements are certainly not providing facts. Does the whole of the film industry have little else to offer, do they really all have no talent?
Question Author
13.27 that's easy, you stop such violent films.
Question Author
13.30 the facts are, film producers are promoting violence on a grand scale, and if you can't see that then you are deluded.
Contact Hollywood - good luck!

Should be 13.30^

Silly M!!
Teacake, I am not - and never have been - deluded.
They will stop making violent films, when people stop watching them. They are there to make money, not provide moral guidance.
I pre record anything I want and never watch anything that just happens to be on now.
Mrs Tony want,d to watch Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children last night, did not think I would like it, but found it very entertaining.

P374 I'll wait until you all start complaining about the violence on the streets of the UK again, its seems you don't see the connection of the films, and destroying teenage minds.
Teacake, the question is more whether violence in the streets can be directly blamed on films. It was tried with video games already, although in the end, we had violence long before either.
There may will be someone unstable, who could be set off by a film or video game. Or a comment, or a picture, or a song, etc etc... We can't ban everything for everyone "just in case".
Question Author
Keep making the excuses P, that what we do best in the UK
They aren't excuses... if you want to solve a problem, the best thing is to find the actual causes.
What percentage of people who watch violent films, go on to commit violent crimes? Where are you getting your information from?
Some still haven't recovered from Bambi.
Bambi and Watership Down...
Pixie I cannot remember before the level of knife and gun crimes we are experiencing in this country at the moment. I dont know what the cause or solution is though.
I watched some very violent movies growing up, didn’t make me go out and slash stab burn or kill anyone
Tony, not just gun and knife crimes, but all violent crime. Methods may vary, but that isn't the point.
