what sort of a carnival would it be if the police did that? even if all of those who "demand respect" left their Rambo knives at home, even if the drug dealers decided to have a day off, even if the steaming gangs decided it was too hot for them to be bothered, the police still need to be visible. some parts of the route are awfy narrow and an accidental injury there could be serious in such a crush of humanity......
