Prompted by another question I am wondering at what age a child should have his or own hotel room when away from home with the parent(s). I think the answer could be different if there was more than one child
This has probably changed over the years. Looking back my parents put me in hotel room on my own on a separate floor to them with no locked door when I was 12 - this was a small hotel in Gozo (next to Malta) - quite unaccaptable today. I rememebr being terrified but that was because an army of ants was always marching across the wall above my bed.
Today I'd probably still say about 12
I think it depends on the child. My daughter would have been terrified of sleeping in a strange room on her own at 12 years of age, in fact when we were visiting unis and staying in Premier Inns, she stayed in our room, even though she was 17.
Thanks all, interesting comments. This question popped up because of my other thread about the single father staying in a hotel with his 13 year old daughter and another poster thought it odd they were sharing a room.
I wouldn't dream of getting my 13 year old son or daughter their own room in a hotel and they wouldn't have wanted it but all children and families are different.
Whenever I take a grandchild away he or she shares a family room with us, no embarrassment or awkwardness. It's fun.
When my grown up children come to stay they often hop in to our bed when they bring us a cuppa in the morning - we are sure to wear out nightclothes when we have visitors :D
