Poland Reacts Angrily To Netflix Nazi Death Camp Documentary
//Mateusz Morawiecki [Poland’s Prime Minister/said a map shown in the series locates the death camps within modern-day Poland's borders.
This misrepresents Poland as being responsible for the death camps, when it was actually occupied by Germany in World War Two, Mr Morawiecki said. //

I’ve read this report and frankly I can’t really make sense of the complaint. The death camps are located within Poland’s borders. That Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany is surely a given?
Perhaps I’m missing something so if someone else would be kind enough to give this a glance I’d be grateful.

I haven't watched the programme yet - though i intend to - but, reading some of the comments to the link, it would appear that the Poles are unhappy that the map shown is not that of Poland during the war. Instead it is a map from 1985 but, as this particular map was the one shown at the trial, it is quite relevant to the programme, imho.

Thank you, Ken. That's thrown some light on it I’ve just found a map of Poland during WWII and a couple of the camps were indeed outside its borders so that clears that up.

This is an interesting insight into the evolution of Polish territory over a few hundred years including prior and after the two world wars. The map at the top right corner changes year by year, at one time Poland virtually did not exist as such. Germany held many ports in modern Polish territory, Danzig and Gdansk are but two.

//From a nucleus between the Odra and Vistula rivers on the North European Plain, Poland has at its largest extent expanded as far as the Baltic, the Dnieper, the Black Sea and the Carpathians, while in periods of weakness it has shrunk drastically or even ceased to exist.[4]//

Yes indeed. This explains more.

No desire to cause offence to our Polish allies but, the camps were where the camps were. If that's inside their present borders then that's inside their present borders. As for the map, it's accurate isn't it ? Assuming folk are too thick to understand is hardly a reason to object IMO. Some will watch for entertainment and not draw conclusions anyway, others more interested will either already realise the situation at the time, or will read up on it. It presently seems inappropriate indignation to me.
