Celebrity Fawning

Had Stoke City football club in my place of work today, doing their annual bit for charity along with some 'official' looking people and photographers and film people etc.
Not a football fan so didn't know anyone, and couldn't care less anyway.
However, a couple of my work colleagues were getting photos, autographs etc.
I didn't even know who they were and couldn't have cared less anyway. I just got back after a heavy day humping crates on and off a van and just wanted my dinner.

I really don't understand this celebrity thing?
My son asked me to get some autographes...couldn't be bothered (didn't have the opportunity anyway...to busy eating my dinner after nearly 6 hours humping heavy crates about).

Just don't get this celeb thing.
Only people at the end of the day.

I have two Autograph books from my Grandmother, some good names in there as far back as Music Hall Days but she wasn't gaga about them just pleased to have met people she enjoyed as performers.

Like many people on here I have met celebrities of one type or another, never fawned, simply conversed.

They were doing their annual bit for charity. Your charity, your place of work. They don't need to do this, I'm sure they could think of better things to do on a cold Wednesday, but they do it. And all you can do is criticise them....cos you were working really, really hard, unlike them who just had to stand there and smile sweetly for their accolades. Jealousy? Celebrities are a fact, they can sit on their laurels, snort coke and get in the papers for all the wrong reasons, or they can use their celebrity status to help charities and bring more money in for them.

You are criticising 'celebrity', commenting on the fact you don't understand why they are celebrities and the fact you 'could not care a less'. You are jealous. You feel they should not have the right to come to your place of work and get people 'fawning' ( your word) over them while you do a six hour shift 'humping crates on and off a van' again your words, and no one fawns over you. I don't need to 'make things up' - I'm making an observation based on what you've written yourself. You are jealous of people who you perceive not to have to work very hard to get the appreciation you perhaps don't get at your place of work.

I know that Manchester United players do it often going to see poorly children in hospital (Recently seen pics) a few days ago.

I wouldn't be able to identify too many Stoke players but do think its really good of them and the many other clubs that also do good works.

I dont think Nailit was critisising the footballers, he was just saying tha he doesnt get how people fawn over them.

I have worked with and met a lot of well known people, and I have seen this reaction quite often. I think its because in one way or another, these celebrity people entertain their fans in some way, and that makes them love them just a little but.

People listen to other people make music for example, and it cheers them up, or they watch them in a film or on the football pitch and it makes them feel very proud to be able meet them. If you dont follow football, then indeed they are just people like you and me.

I’m sure the company you work for were happy to receive the visitors, great publicity. Instead of fawning , to others it may be showing appreciate and respect .

Celebrity status is part of our modern culture, we're stuck with it.

Personally, I like stars, rather than celebrities, and the difference is - a star has done something to earn their fame, a celebrity is famous for being famous.

Kim Kardashian is a celebrity, Mick Jagger is a star.

I know where my interest and respect lies.
