I haven't been to the cinema for many years, but the reviews for the new film of Cats have been SO bad, I'm thinking of seeing for myself. It can't be that bad can it? Well, from the trailer I've seen - yes it can! I could do with a good laugh...

Check the run time before you go - can you imagine sitting for 2 hours? :-)

I was asked if I wanted to go and see it on Saturday but I said no as I'm not a fan of musicals. That was even before I saw the reviews...apart from the Daily Mail man who seemed to like it, anyway.

There's no spoken dialogue in the stage musical either. It all song and dance, not my cup of tea really but I am intrigued by a film with such poor reviews!

The reviewer in The New York Times described Judi Dench "gliding in as Old Deuteronomy, a Yoda-esque fluff ball with a huge ruff who brings to mind the Cowardly Lion en route to a drag ball as Queen Elizabeth I".

Brilliant.

I'm beginning to wonder if the negative comments about the trailer and now the film might just be a weird marketing ploy?

Watching a movie, just to see if it's as bad as it's meant to be, can sometimes be entertaining. (Well, mildly entertaining, anyway!).

For example I knew that 'Santa Claus Conquers the Martians' is widely ranked as not only the worst ever Christmas movie but also as one of the worst 10 movies ever made. When I saw it in Poundland on DVD a few year's ago, I just couldn't resist buying it. It was worth a quid for a giggle but I was able to take a break for a coffee or fast-forward bits of it. I'm not sure that I'd want to pay to spend 110 minutes watching a duff film in a cinema though.

I would never go to a cinema version of a musical, I'd far rather see it in a theatre. Cats is fabulous at the theatre, seen it three times !

I don't take much notice of the critics. Lots of films and TV programs they have praised I have hated and vice versa. I am definitely going to go and see it. Also, there are quite a lot of films of musicals that I have really enjoyed, even though I have seen them at the theatre as well.
