Famous people, especially those of senior years, often have no idea where they are from day to day.
I interviewed Joey Kramer, drummer with Aerosmith, backstage at Donnington Festival, and on the coffee table of his luxurious trailer dressing room was a sheet of A4 paper, with the words writ large - 'YOU ARE IN CASTLE DONINGTON, ENGLAND' - just so there is no confusion.
TBA, musicians at this level on tour probably genuinely do lose track of which country they are in, with the plane / limo / hotel / limo / dressing room / stage / limo / hotel / airport / plane … roundabout that the live on for months on end.
At least it beats one once-famous singer reduced to a small club tour in the UK, playing my local venue. I interviewed him before the show, and he seemed a little … vague … but not as vague as when he sang his first song, and then advised the crowd that he was "Delighted to be playing in the birthplace of Freddie Mercury …"
Hint for the geographically-challenged artist - Mr Mercury was born in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Africa, and the artist's venue of choice that night was the Sugarmill in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
