NTL Broadband

I have been using NTL Broadband for about 3 years now, and currently have their 3MB connection.The reason I originally went with NTL was because they did not have a cap on their downloads.I was looking on <A target='_blank' href=&quot;http://www.Broadbandchecker,co.uk&quot;>WWW.Broad bandchecker,co.uk</A> yesterday, and their website says that NTL have a 1GB per day download cap on thir 3MB connection.I am really peeved about this as I do a lot of downloading.I am now thinking of changing to UKOnline who have a 22MB connection for �8 per month less than I am currently paying for the NTL Broadband.The problem is that I also have NTL Cable TV,and telephone, but to have the UKOnline Broadband I need to have a BT line.Does any know how much hassle it is to cancel my NTL Broadband and telephone (i want to keep the cable TV), and get a BT line.Also, if anyone out there is currently using the UKOnline 22MB connection,is it any good,how reliable is it?

Do you really download over 1GB per day? That's a lot to download...

Rumour has it that NTL will upgrade everyone to 10Mb next year, with different caps in place according to how much you're paying.

Apparently they aren't zealously enforcing the caps at the moment, but are likely to start to once the upgrade happens.

On the other hand, 1 Gig is lot to download: do you really have time to watch all those films? I mean, evaluate all those Linux distros? ;o)

I was with NTL about 2 years ago and they absolutely positively definitely had a cap of 1GB per day then.

Their terms & conditions stated that if you regularly exceeded it, they'd take action but if you went over it once in a blue moon they'd be more lenient.

How much do you currently download per day? How much are you currently paying so that people can give you a comparative offer elsewhere?

Thanks for all of your answers.When I first had NTL BB installed, I am sure they specified a monthly cap of 30GB and not a daily cap of 1GB.As I do most of my downloading at the weekend, I assumed that as long as I did not go over 30GB in any given month,I would be ok.If I do not download during the week, does my 1GB per day limit 'roll over' to the next day, meaning that I could download 7GB at the weekend? I am ashamed to admit that I download nearly 30GB per month of a variety of TV series that air in the US several months before they reach the UK.I know its illegal, but I am addicted to these programmes.

I'm with NTL, and like you I had the service before the cap came into force. I go over regularly, and they've only contacted me once, advising I might like to choose to go up to a higher speed service with a larger cap.

I'd stick with it, unless you're actually going to get cheaper elsewhere.

The NTL cap is still per month. They only give the per day equivalent to enable people who cannot multiply/divide to guesstimate the volume of usage they should maintain to adhere to the T&Cs.

As long as you do not surpass the 30GB monthly limit by too much it wouldn't matter if you downloaded it all in one day.
