I know it's not real but staff decide during a day's work that they are leaving. It happened a few weeks ago when Archie left Casualty and last night, during his working day, Ben decided to leave Holby. Surely, that isn't how staffing in hospitals works! I repeat, I know it's not real.

Yes, they've always done that. Same as in the other soaps, people decide to up sticks and move to another town, country and even the other side of the world at the drop of a hat.
