As I have said before some people view elderly / sick peoples lives as collateral and cant stand the restrictions placed upon them to prevent deaths and limit infections.
Mixed messages from every level of the country's administration doesn't help. I am not thinking of Trump alone here, either. Different State Governors offering different, often contradictory advice. That and just general hubris.
Jim - I had already read that and the fact on the shut down of business premises in the US had exempted gun shops as they are considered essential. I try hard but I cannot understand the mindset of people that think like this.

Not all states are equally affected, it is true, because the dynamics of disease spread are too complicated to be uniform. In general, though, common sense tells you that the fewer restrictions apply, the easier it will be for a disease to spread, once it establishes a presence. Those states who haven't applied have therefore been lucky up to now.
