I imagine only those who feel they're up to competing on Countdown accept the invitation. I've seen some pretty thick celebrities on Celebrity Mastermind though.
GK quizzes and Countdown aren't really comparable are they?

I usually view the Celebrity editions of quiz type shows purely as light entertainment, though some do well on their specialised subjects (not all).
Ade Edmondson on Celeb Mastermind won even before he’d taken his GK round. I’m not sure if that’s because he’s clever or the others were particularly dim. I think the former.

Also, Germaine Greer is very clever but was hopeless on The Chase.
Any programme with the word "Celebrity" included ought to be avoided at all costs, imvhbtho.
//I’m not sure if that’s because he’s clever or the others were particularly dim. I think the former. //

I thought the latter. Ade is reasonably intelligent, but that was embarrassing.
How do we know, never heard of most of them . Why does so called celebs play for charity causes is it because they make loads of money. if I get on one of those show I’m playing for my favourite rather than have to tell the the presenter what I’m going to do the money if I win some .
How are you defining thick and clever? By thick, do you mean lacking knowledge, which is not the same thing. I have a friend who is brilliant at maths but I can leave him standing with mental arithmetic; who is the thick one?
When did Countdown do a Celebrity version?
//Why does so called celebs play for charity causes //

Because quiz shows with celebrity players are designed that way. All the winnings go to charitable causes.
Denton, I think the OP means the celebrity who sits with Susie Dent.
Okay Naomi do they get appearance money for appearing on the show eh tell me that
Yes.
Oh not a lot of people know that including me thanks Naomi
You're welcome.
The best "Celebrity" programme is "Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins", where they get taken down several pegs just like the general public do. The latest series was great, especially the Paralympian Lauren Steadman. I've never seen a one-armed woman go through anything like an SAS selection programme before. It was quite something.
AhI see Naomi, most boring one ever was Bob Champion the Jockey, was never asked back again I don't think.
So some presenter could ask okay What are you going to do with the appearance money I’m told you get from appearing on this show tonight.
Why would any presenter do that? The celebrities are being paid to do a job. What they do with their earnings is their business.
So I would not be earning the money I get ?
Ellipses,it put me off when I saw this series had Katie Price on complete with 4inch daisy the cow lashes
