Whom I’ve never heard her use any kind of swear word ever , she rang me earlier and we chatted, she likes her Soaps so we talked about what she was watching during lockdown
“ oh I love Classic Corrie and Emmerdale but not that ‘ cockney chit’ ( EE)
I burst out laughing then she said
Oh, should I be careful what I say , you know people can listen in now to phone calls Haha ( no offence to Londoners here )
I know that. But people will always take the ***. I`m from Devon and I get sick of people doing the whole Pam Ayres accent. I never spoke with that accent because my Mum came from London and was well spoken. My Dad spoke with a broad N Devon accent which also bears no relation to the sterotypical west country accent that people like to mock.
I get mocked for my Geordie accent with the Whay Aye ya B****r, I’m not broad Geordie and I cringe hearing those that are but it’s where I’m from and I’m proud of that
I’m from Somerset and I definitely don’t have the strong accent of my uncles. But whenever I here my own voice on a recording or a delay on my phone I think I sound like a (stereotypical) country bumpkin.
They're's loads of cockney ***'s darn there, and not all from the east end of London either. ;-) I can see how it made you larf Bobbi... unexpectedly from your Sis. I rarely swear (kicking ones toe on a table is an exception and I become fluent in many languages) but it does get noticed when I do.
I think my dear old sister was associating EE with people like the Krays etc, please take into consideration her age and that’s the first time I’ve heard her swear , she never knowingly insulted anyone which is why I said as much in my OP
Sometimes it’s like walking on broken glass on here
It was so funny coming from her Clover and funnier her thinking people could overhear her in our phone conversation , she’s as bright as a button which made it all the more funny
I do love a Geordie accent. When a friend from South Shields first came down to Somerset he asked in a pub for three Cokes and he was given three corks! True!
