Dr Valter Longo, in his book 'The Longevity Diet' comes to the conclusion that if you have long life in your genes, you can more or less do what you like. He writes about the case of a lady who gave up smoking at 102 only because her eyesight had failed and she couldn't light up, and was too independent to allow others to light up for her.

Gness after reading all the suggestions on that thread I posted I'm doing OK by buying the specific Green Filter cigarettes (which both my local shops sell) and using the Rizla menthol infused cards. Almost perfect except you have to remember to set the next packet up all the time as it takes a minimum of an hour to work and in reality longer.
For years I used to fetch my mum's neighbour 80 fags a week. She was in her early 90's. Doctors repeatedly told her to pack it in as it wasnt good for her health? (she was in very good health)
A few weeks ago she went into a home where they couldnt smoke.
Would like to see how that pans out....
I packed in smoking a few years ago, although now addicted to niccorrete chewing gum.
Couldn't touch a fag now though to save my life (no pun intended)

is not new and is based in the strongest determinant of your life span is the average at which your parents died - actuaries have known this for a long time - old actuaries know this ......
blood pressure and diabetes then become second ( ignoring things like HIV or ebola)
