A Star Is Born

I watched this last night on BBC 4, it was the Judy Garland, James Mason film. It started off alright in colour, but then it changed to black and white stills. There was still talking going on but no movement. I got fed up of it doing this, so I stopped watching about halfway through.Does anyone know why it does this, and does it carry on doing it right to the end? TIA

no it doesn't, it just moves the story along a bit quicker. shame you missed such a spectacularly good film, with one of my heroines Judy Garland. The man that got away is an all time favourite.

try and watch if it comes on again, you won't be sorry. its a great story

emmie, I recorded it and still have it, but it spoilt it for me, I've never seen this happen in a film before. I might watch the rest of it tonight if there's nothing else on.

apparently that was because chunks were cut out after the film was released; years later they restored as much as they could but on-set photos had to be used for a bit where no footage was ever found again
