…because they fear offending 'the woke', says Have I Got News For You producer, Jimmy Mulville.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8949821/BBC-Channel-4-cramping-creativity-comedy.html

He said a joke about Abu Hamza's hook hand was once pulled for being 'disablist'

He said he hopes 'we'll wake up' from fear of this 'cancel culture', and added: 'I have views about "the woke". I think it's pathetic'.

I too think it’s pathetic. What say you?

Pathetic!!! Little more to add.
Aye, probably.

Meanwhile Adam Hills still gets a gig though. What's THAT about?
I think you know what I'm going to say - I too think it's pathetic, with bells on!!
I find some of the comments on here really make me laugh whereas, so called TV comedy, hasn’t done that for years.
Some folk can be as creative as they want and still not be funny (to me)

I sed bfore,I was at me mates house and watched Spitting Image and it was absolutely crap.Is this cos of fear? No chance, its just poor writers.

Yup I think HIGNIFY is past its sell by.
They should give Frankie Boyle as show. That'll solve the problem.

Channel 4 I mean. I'm guessing Jimmy Mulville hasn't seen New World Order.
I always think, for me, the funniest thing to come out of Hat Trick productions was Drop The Dead Donkey. Loved that program.
Some comedians can be edgy but spoil their act with gratuitous swearing as if it adds to the performance.

Naomi,lets take someone u dont like-Billy Connolly.

If he was starting out today and was creative and edgy but with all his swearing u and loads of others wud not listen to him ;-)
Mulville complains that comedy on these 2 channels is being cramped. Yet he offers just the one example? As for Britbox not showing Love They Neighbour and Till Death Us Do Part, hardly surprising really. Even without the 'woke'.
Well, there's no room for Love Thy Neighbour in this day and age on any channel, as for Alf, haven't they only cut certain episodes? Maybe I'm confusing it with Fawlty Towers, which I know cut some of the Colonel's more extreme opinions out.
According to the link, Mozz, Britbox do not show Alf and co.
Fair do's Ken, must've been confusing it with that old Fawlty Towers report then.

I'm not sure what the wink is all about, ag. No, I wouldn't listen to him - but I wouldn't try to silence him.
Abject. Like skimmed milk on my cornflakes. Not all there, somethings missing....I know, it’s common sense.
"but I wouldn't try to silence him."

I dont think anyone cud!!
Question Author
Hardly the point, ag.
I guess the point is that if the BBC do not want to show a program they do agree with ethically, they have every right to do that.

Personally, I think that a clear warning before the show begins, along the lines of "The following program contains content deemed offensive in today's culture." should be sufficient to ward the more sensitive away from viewing it.
you should watch Spike Milligan, talk about anti establishment, anti pc
still hilarious by the way
