I always wondered if he is the singer of The Divine Comedy, as they sound similar.

He's not - that's Neil Hannon, but they do sound very similar.

I think I'd call it satire rather than irony. Hilarious...particularly after growing up with all the clean cut singers of the 50s-60s, and the Saturday night variety shows.
