Tonight and tomorrow on Channel 5 at 9pm. Shocking true story of the schoolgirl whose mother shocked the nation by hiding her own daughter in the base of a divan bed for 24 days and pretended she’d been kidnapped in order to try and claim a £50,000 reward.....
Gripping story.
I think watching this for Shannon could actually be cathartic. Often when you are abused you wonder if somehow it was your fault -you did something, or didn't, to provoke the abuse. Watching a dramatic reconstruction of the events may help Shannon realise she was totally innocent and help towards her healing. I have no idea if she had Counselling after the events, I would hope she did, but I think if I were her, I would want to watch the programme.
I’ve just watched the first episode and I agree with snowball. It’s gripping stuff. Very well done, not overly dramatised, and no tedious repetitive ‘catch ups’ after every break. Well worth watching.
I watched both last night. It was very, very well done. Karen's friend was a very likeable woman and I felt for her after Karen's betrayal, but I got the impression she would still be a friend to her given the chance. People going on about Gemma Collins being vulnerable, Karen Matthews is, in my opinion, far more vulnerable. Kudos to the man who tipped the officers off, he saved Shannon.
