Anyone watching the repeats on a Monday? I really looked forward to it but I can't believe how watching it wore me out. I must be getting past it because I felt really stressed!!

Personally, i think the funniest scene of the entire 2 series is the one of Basil with his head in his hands, bunny-hopping on the landing while mewing uncontrollably. Had it been done by anyone with less of a bean-pole appearance, it would have been nowhere near as funny.
I think barry was referring to the scene with the car being funny the first time, less so the zillionth.
I don't think these episodes date at all, and even the bits that do (the jokes about the Germans and the war) are still funny as they are so outrageous.
We all love to sit calmly watching someone needlessly losing it, and it never fails to satisfy :-)
Samuraisan; "...we laughed our heads off.." Did you hear about the lepers playing poker? One threw his hand in and the others laughed their heads off :-)
My personal favourite has always been the mouse popping up in the biscuits
Nothing, has ever made me laugh as much as Fawlty Towers series.
I was referring to the whole series. I really don't like John Cleese so that doesn't help.
Oh ok!
No I can't stand John Cleese eiuther but I must say I have never failed to find FT amusing.
And you all moan about me.
On the few occasions I watched Fawlty Towers I just couldn't 'get it'. Cultural differences maybe but 'Farce' just isn't funny to me, although OH thinks its great. He would sit there in fits of laughter; I would sit there thinking 'For Christ Sake!' ( I do have a very good sense of humour for a Québécoise though lol!)
I am a london born Brit APG and I have never "got" farce either.
I thought it was funny, even now. Better than the so called comedies they make now which aren’t funny at all.
Getting stressed and worn out watching a TV comedy program. Oh dear poor thing. I hope your boiler doesn’t fail.....it’s the end of the world and we know it:-)
I thought the Builders and Mrs Richards vase were very funny and still do but some of the others not so.
When you start analysing comedy you've lost your sense of humour.

aristotle and Longinus did it
( hey you avvin a larf ! - ter daah ! thank you TTT)

I always thought comedy was farce - it isnt. it was just very popular 1950-2000. Checkhov wrote comedies - Cherry Orchard and Seagull for those doing quizzes - and didnt just relabel them to get them on stage
they were comedies
Like the bit at the end of The Seagull - - - dont say anything but Constatin has just shot himself!

rib tickler

the poet Euripides
was an old sobersides
His play Andromache
doesnt make your ribs ache
I wanted a room with a view.

What do you expect, madam? The Leaning Tower of Pisa perhaps? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past the window? That is Torquay, madame.

Well, I wanted a seaview.

That is the sea madame, between the land and the sky.
Comedy, as 10CS demonstrates, is not as easy to do as it might appear, even when served up on a plate. :-P
