I think a lot of these quizzes operate much like those psychological tests where you have to respond quickly with the first word that comes to mind. If you know the Peace of Vereeniging is a rose, that's what you'll say.

I think a lot of people make mistakes because they’re under time pressure - although I have to say a team in University Challenge recently, when asked questions on geography, were shamefully embarrassing - and that was with no time pressure.
