Tiring of so many onscreen murders, sex & mayhem, we seek a series which is light & intelligent without being silly, eg. Madmen, The Kominsky Method, The Queen's Gambit etc.

Any suggestions please?

Have you seen Breaking Bad and its two follow ups?

I'm just nearing the end of one you mentioned - Midnight Mass. Haven't really much of a clue what's going on.
Does it have to e Netflix, Khandro. I found 'We Are Lady Parts' on All 4 to be very amusing and quite light. Poking fun, as it does, at Muslim stereotypes (one of the songs is called 'Nobody's Gonna Honour Kill My Sister But Me), WALP is about an all female, all Muslim punk rock band. I have read that the actors actually play their own instruments and, if that's true, the lead guitarist knows her way around the frets. I am actually eagerly awaiting the 2nd series, which has been commissioned.

n. Thanks, saw BB ages ago, twice I think, v.good.

Midnight Mass is wild towards the end, but I liked it, it was recommended by Ricky Gervaise (not directly!) who was very enthusiastic.

Have you seen the two Israeli films about orthodox Jews, 'Unorthodox' & 'Shtisel' ? a subject matter I wouldn't have that would I would like so much, but they are both fascinating.
Question Author
ken; Thanks but the only apps I've got on my TY are Netflix & YouTubes
Have you seen Messiah on Netflix? It is rumoured that only Covid prevented a 2nd series from being made.
Khandro, I'm half way through the final episode of Midnight Mass and 'wild' is right. The problem is the screen is so dark I can't see what's happening for much of the time. It's certainly bizarre though.

Did you watch the follow-ups to BB, Better Call Saul and El Camino?

I've seen Unorthodox but not Shtisel.

Have you seen 'Big Little Lies' with Nicole Kidman? I think that might have been on Sky.

We've just watched Jeremy Clarkson's Farm on Amazon. Very entertaining.
agree about JC, but i guess not helpful if you don't have prime.
I find brooklyn 99 both funny and intelligent and easy to pick up and put down. It's a sit-com but a very well characterised one.

n. Shtisel is very good, probably better even than Unorthodox.
I'm taken with Israeli stuff for no other reason that they are so good; I take it everyone's seen 'Fauda' 1&2 ?

ken. I've seen Messiah, can't see how they could follow it up though. Have you seen 'Giri/Haji' on Netflix?
Khandro - I mentioned Ethos on another thread yesterday - It is a Turkish series - very beautiful to watch and a very moving story .

And for something completely different - Call My Agent - French and very funny. Also - Lupin - have you tried that

I can recommend both of these'
I am also a fan of Call my Agent! - funny and quirky
Question Author
One problem is that Netflix doesn't have the same 'menu' in each country, I tried once to get 'Call my agent' but it wasn't available here, I'll try again & see if it has been since added, thanks.
Call My Agent is on Netflix UK now I just started it myself
i dont think the OP is in the UK
ah i see, thanks
Question Author
Just checked & there is only 'Call my Agent , Bollywood' available in Germany, which I'm sure is a different thing?
If you can get 'Pretend it's a City', that is very clever & funny
We enjoyed ‘Only murders in the building:.
You need a VPN. They are not expensive and means you can unlock content from anywhere in the world.
I liked Only Murders in the Building, though that was Disney rather than Netflix.
Agree about the VPN. This site is very useful if you have one, it lets you know what is on Netflix in different countries https://unogs.com/
Have you watched After Life, bittersweet but I enjoyed it. Have just seen that Series 3 (the last)starts on 14th January
Question Author
I have a VPN but don't use it because I can only get it on my PC which doesn't have the necessary wi-fi to connect it to my TV & I don't watch films on my PC, so I wont be renewing my subscription.
