With the late, great John Thaw.
I read the book and saw the film. I cried both times.
Awww.... I watched that with a client once. Loved it.
It's a lovely film and John Thaw is superb in the role but it is the sort of film I can only watch once. I think watching it again would take the charm off it.
I highly recommend it.

We have it on DVD and the family watch it now and again

I'm pretty certain I'll watch it again one day.
Saw the original and after about ten minutes of John Thaw's terrible impression of a Norfolk accent I had to turn off.
