Anyone Else Find This Scary?

When I hear of a stabbing or shooting, I tend to think of gangs out for revenge.
I never really think about someone like this who just wants to go and stab people just for the sake of it.
I find it really scary that you could be anywhere just minding your own business and someone will just come up and stab you.
We really must be vigilant and careful.

This sort of thing has always happened.

Difficult sometimes to know who is a nutter until they commit a heinous crime.

I don't ever remember reading about a stabbing somewhere or other as much as I do now.
There seems to be at least one a day somewhere in the country and that's just the ones that have been reported.

I agree, Barsel: if this had been in the USA it wouldn't have been a gang fight, it would have been one of those random killing sprees at schools or shopping malls. Thank goodness he didn't have a gun.

That is similar to the mass shootings we've had in the past, such as Dunblane and Hungerford, except for the weapon.

20 years ago or more in Birmingham somebody stabbed many women in the buttocks over a long period and was never caught.

At one time we heard the news once or twice a day on TV, now it is constantly on TV and online.

I guess you'd be more likely to be killed or injured in a traffic accident than by some murderous nutter.
It must be terrifying when it happens but I don't go about wondering if everyone I see is going to attack me.

History confirms that with the exception of seriously mentally disturbed individuals, or terrorists, who are obviously seriously mentally disturbed individuals as well, but pretend to hide behind a religion - random violence is actually rare.

The majority of people who are attacked in the street are either directly known to their attacker, or connected to them in a tangible way, such as gang affiliations and so on.

I don;t find it scary at all, because if I did, it would make me reluctant to go out, and I am never going to allow myself to feel like that.

Andy I agree that you can't dwell on these things or you would not enjoy going out, but todays papers show 4 people from the same family stabbed to death in London and 2 in Manchester.
There are probably more than this, these are just the 2 I saw in the paper.
I think there will come a time when we won't even be shocked by it.

It's the rarity and shock value of these occurrences that makes them newsworthy - that's what you have to concentrate on - these things are rare, not normal.

Andy, I used to think these crimes were gang related, and as I have never been in a gang, I knew that if I was stabbed/shot it would mean I was in the wrong place at the wrong time but, it looks like people are killing people just because they don't like the look of them or just got up that morning and decided they are going to kill someone.
It might be rare for now but unless someone does something about it, I fear it will be quite common.

of murder - 1 third immediately commit suicide ( no not the murdered victim silly, they're already dead ! duh) - a third are found unfit to plead ( mad ) and a third go to trial
(lots - not a few. Of the first 2/3 they all know each other)

2. Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte dont carry knives - big see. The geeks carry knives. These ideas are not too rich or off-the-wall are they?

3. geeks are doing it for protection. The vast majority are stabs to liver and spleen. Some do the Psycho shower scene stab - because it is to the nexk and THAT is much 'safer' than to the chest. It isnt
