Savile was "unusual" but again, who wants to be accused of suspecting someone on those grounds alone. At the time of his death (see my previous post) many people were prepared to believe the best of him, me included.
I watched this:
Fascinating to see all the old clips of Savile etc.
One of the creepiest bits for me was the bit where he is at Loch Ness, when Savile jokes that the monster won't appear as, effectively, she knows she'd have competition from "another monster" - with what seemed like a funny look in his eye.
What came over to me was that Savile was someone with an acute sense of right and wrong, what was moral and immoral. There's little doubt he knew he was a monster, but - by another of his creepy observations - hoped the good someone does outweighs the bad in the eyes of the folk upstairs manning the pearly gates.
And of course the highly dubious behaviour of the police and the BBC pre-Christmas 2011.

Watched both parts a few weeks back and, yes TTT, in hindsight the clues were blinding. However, he fooled us all, didn't he? I never watched much of TOTP but i always remember thinking 'What a marvellous guy' when i watched 'Jim'll Fix It' or when he was doing his many charity runs. And i was one of probably millions who thought, 'About bloody time' when he was knighted. Yep, completely taken in:-(
I always found him intensely irritating: always shifting the conversation onto something else and putting on an act.
But, like most, I thought he was probably a Good Guy.
The taped interview with Surry police was also fascinating: I'd never heard him talk like that before: ranting, and threatening the office who was interviewing him with court action.
You could see how people might be scared of him. And tragically and inexplicably the Surrey police did not inform the three independent witnesses/victims individually that they were not the only ones.

I met him when he came into our crewroom on Ark Royal in the early 70s. Must admit not many liked the bloke even then. He was trying to be pleasant but came over as more intimidating than anything else and made sure everyone knew who was the celebrity.
