Given his background and pedigree I’m amazed that he’s even been mentioned in the same breath as Boris Johnson, let alone played an active part of his administration.

Hardly. Just shows a difference of opinion as to what is and what is not a party. Proof requires one to demonstrate what was in the PM's mind, and whether it was a reasonably held view or not.

I agree, some people have "Tupperware Parties" and I can't think of anything more wrongly labelled. A gathering of people with cake and alcohol on someone's birthday is usually slightly easier however suddenly it's become really hard to call it a party. One reason it wasn't a party is that Boris' cake never left it's Tupperware box. It really is confusing.

Whether the gather was "party" or not is immaterial and I don't know why there is such emphasis on the word. The legislation which the PM and other politicians and their lackies broke doesn't mention the word party.

I see your opinion as valid but as the prime minister was responsible for setting the rules and laws - do you not think it valid that people find it difficult to believe that he did not know that he was breaking those rules and therefore breaking the ministerial code?

And some believe he knew he was breaking the rules (he set) and chose to deny then lie about it (to the press and parliament).

RH. I can’t see how mixing with people you’re working with all day is breaking a rule. It makes no sense to say it’s ok - unless you drink a glass of wine.

Because organisations were required to reduce and mitigate the effects of contact between workers (the government's advice) and people outside a work context were not allowed to mix (pubs, clubs, restaurants were closed) so having "wine time Fridays" was illegal, hence the fines.

The problem is Naomi we were told limited numbers in pubs etc was because alcohol breaks down inhibitions and people get closer.

Now, as you know, I never bought into any of the bull, but the Government spouted it and their Gestapo police acted on it - very harshly for some. I still think 'PartyGate' and 'Beergate' should be dropped, but I can se why others are very cross.

The Buffon needs to go, but not for this.
