This is a simple case of "I don't like it"...so..."there's too much of it on".
Same argument for reality shows, cooking shows, property shows etc. etc.
Bobbie22, it's a once-a-year event and, as the numbers of participants dwindle throughout the fortnight, coverage gets less and less.
I love tennis. Certainly much better viewing that wall to wall cookery programmes, soaps and reality progs. They are on all year, every year:-(
Yes I do and it's Wimbedon, our tournament. It's the ony tennis terrestrial TV shows all year and there are masses of other channels to pick from. Good for the Beeb I say.
Why does it have to be on both BBC's main channels?
If you don't like tennis it's annoying and if you like tennis you can't watch both channels at once.
"Sport obsessed BBC" That gave me a chuckle! They no longer show live cricket. They no longer show live horse racing - not even (since 2012) the Grand National. They no longer show F1. They show very few 'live' football matches when the FA Cup rolls into town. That leaves us with Rugby and Tennis. Sport obsessed?
Rod Laver of course was a pioneer of the professional game and didn't play the Grand Slam events for most of the 60s. Emerson on the other hand remained an amateur through all that time.
It's amazing (to me) think that until Nadal and Djokovic came along they were the only two male players to win each of the Grand Slams at least twice.
It's only on both channels simultaneously from 1.45 to 6pm.
Annoying I admit for those who don't like it - and sometimes it may overrun, but hardly the takeover of the schedules claimed.
i was very ill once when wimbledon fortnight was on, in a halls of residence all alone. I basically watched wimbledon from bed all day and all evening (in between sleeping) and since then i love it. I dont watch any other tennis, but wimbledon i do
3. For young people.
4. Documentaries & serious.
News. Rolling news coverage.
Parliament. self explanatory.
CBBC. Over 6 year old.
CBEEBies. under 6 year old.
Alba. Scots Gaelic.
S4c. Welsh.
And BBC2 advertises itself as offering alternative programmes.
Hardly a scintillating choice, perhaps I should start taking an interest in tennis. :o)
Given that I was born and bred in Wimbledon, living a stone's throw from the courts, but never been there, that says what I think of watching tennis. I even prefer cricket!!
I can only repeat what I said earlier:
it's annoying for non tennis fans but aside from the other channels, at peak viewing times, there's actually not - in the schedule at any rate - tennis on both BBC1 and BBC 2 at the same time.
The killer I suppose is having a roof and lights over the court or courts, so no chance of rain or bad light stopping play there!
Yeah, roll on the World Cup so we can have some proper sport, commented on by educated, rounded individuals who can string a sentence together and in no way wear English flag underpants.
