Human nature feels secure with explanations.
From the time mankind has evolved into a thinking questioning species, it has looked for reasons to explain the world, because lack of explanations are uncomfortable.
I have said many times that I believe that this foundation of religion - a need to ascribe the confusion of the world to a high power, be that the sun, a tree, God, whatever takes the individual fancy.
And the same applies for the unexplainable in terms of witnessed phenomena - UFO's, ghosts and similar.
As Naomi points out, unexplainable things do happen, and the reaction is the same as always, because it is built into the human psyche - find an explanation.
It is perfectly possible that alien species exist, and have visited us, and even move among us.
The popular response is the 'UFO' which for some reason, only seems to manifest itself to individuals in isolated areas, there never seems to be a UFO flying over downtown Manhattan, or the City Of London.
But what if aliens have no physical form at all? They could be here and we simply don't know.
The fact remains, unexplainable things do happen - they always have and always will, and witnesses will always want, and indeed need, an explanation because unexplained occurrences make humans nervous, so a simple reason, however nonsensical, is always preferable.

I don't believe that's true at all. " - I know with absolute certainly there is a rational explanation. we don't always know what that is but there is one. A chap called James Randy founded the Sceptic society decades ago and offered $1m to anyone who could demonstrate any sort phenomenon from TWWOTB under test conditions. No one ever did which is odd because they hang around various shows trying to con people out of their hard earned. You'd think they'd pick up the $1m rather than do all that? James Randi was a magician, he knew it was all 100% trickery. Now like most magic tricks they look impossible if you don't know how it's done. Yes there are sightings of various phenomena and yes some have not been explained but I am 100% certain when they are it will be something rational and scientifically explainable. But that isn’t what you said the first time. Believing there's a rational explanation (as I believe too) indicates that odd things do, in fact, happen - therefore that doesn't render all claims 100% 'old pony' does it?
Please don't bang on about Randy again. Even in mainstream science some experiments have been found unworkable in certain conditions, so the failure there proves nothing.

I seen one programme and some video shot from a security camera.
It was shot at night and there was snow on the ground. Someone walked down their path followed by what appeared to be a smoky image said to be a guardian angel by an "expert".
To me, my immediate thought was it was a snowflake that had landed on the camera lens, refracting the light from a visible streetlight in different ways as the snowflake melted and appearing to follow the person.
