I love rock music but generally sway towards the indie genre but Justin Hawkins is a fantastic guitarist. Even my brother who loves Sepultura and the likes is amazed at what a good guitarist he is. It may sound dated but thats how they sound you therefore must chuck in iron Maiden, Guns n roses, van halen etc infact any 80s metal band.
Personally I woulg go for the one in everything I do Brian Adams .
I must admit i hate rock music but that doesnt mean i dont know a bunch of charlatans when i see them.
Just cos they are good musicians doesnt make them any good - in fact some of the worse pop music imaginable has been turned out by 'good musicians'.
I also nominate PC Plum's solo in Follow the Clue (any parent of toddlers will know what i mean)
I love these songs but Van Halen's Jump and Europe's Final Countdown feature some pretty pedestrial noodling. It's like the song stops for the guitarist. I wouldn't recognise them if played in isolation.
More recently, McFly's That Girl - awful. The kind of solos featured in Angels and Torn annoy me too. You know the ones - yawn.
Nice to see we're back on track after a bit of 'band bashing' in the middle (not what it's about really). Someone mentioned Guns 'n Roses earlier, well what about Slash's solo, well I say solo but the whole thing really, you know, his effort in Michael Jackson's 'Black & White'. Did he just record it once (the riff, solo or whatever you want to call it) then hit the repeat button ?Now I don't actually play guitar but I reckon even I could have managed that one. 'avin' a larf weren't he?
