Apparently, it was meant to be a completely different type of
family than in Last of the Summerwine. I really can,ee why they called it the larkins if that's the case! But a lot of people must like it as it's a second series and I wouldn't laugh at them. We aren't all the same.
Pimply, give a thought to the elderly, some who live alone, those like my housebound friend who like to get lost in following the lives of characters in a soap.
Yes, I know they're probably not as bright as you, but not everybody gets pleasure from watching arty farty high brow....high spend rubbish.
The books are really good. In my early twenties I went through an 'H. E. Bates phase', after reading Love For Lydia - one of only two novels that have made me cry. Read everything by him that I could get hold of, and I especially love his short stories, of which he is a master.
Even now if I'm feeling down or have run out of something to read, I'll reach for my ancient Penguin copy of his stories; favourites being The Lighthouse, The Kimono and The Four Beauties - must have read them a dozen times.
