I smelt a proverbial rat when I saw the post purporting to be from Emmie's brother this morning. When I intimated that I thought the whole scenario was improbable, my response was deleted. Now it appears that dozens of people have been duped by the lunatic who started the whole thing off.

Three cheers for diddly
I got a bit of flack too, my I always trust my instincts and frankly no one's comments on here have any impact on my life.
I think it is an indication that people On this site are basically decent people for whom such duplicity is so alien it wouldn't cross their minds. After the Craft episode I think people were justified in at least voicing suspicion it just got out of hand. Maybe we do need delayed posting for new posters where their posts have to be checked by a mod before appearing. Every other site I use has this system. It should have been necessary to provide proof. It's easy to say that in hindsight.
People expressed genuine dismay and sorrow. Heartfelt compassion demonstrates care, tenderness, and an open heart. Duped? There’s only one fool here, the original poster.

Even Naomi intimated that the message from "the brother" didn't exactly ring true. I'd love to know how she got to the bottom of this very sick happening.
She didn't, Diddly, she is merely the messenger. I and three other people knew about this for a few hours and when it became apparent that the EDs were away for the entire Christmas period it was felt that someone should convey the news on AB.

Minty did all the detective work.
I assume Minty informed naomi...Well, that's what my inner Ironside tells me.
There was no detective work needed to realise Minty had found the truth following here request for Naomi to contact her.
I’ve only just seen this after expressing my condolences this morning.
What a horrible thing to do. Thankfully, Emmie is still with us.
I thought we weren't meant to be talking about this. I must admit the whole thing has put me right off this site, especially as I was trolled yesterday. I am wondering now what could have happened and if it came from the same source.
This does not show the site owners in a good light.
There are responsibilities that go with running a public forum, and they have been shown to be inadequate. They have let us down. The fact that a warped individual has duped us is bad enough, but the fact that the site has been abandoned by those who should be policing it is the real shame. It has been left to concerned members to tidy up the mess and do their best to minimise the distress caused. And the owners/Eds are still conspicuous by their absence.
Sadly it has been plain for a long time that the place is badly run. The trust of those of us who have been members here for a long time has been broken.
I hope lessons will be learned, and that we will not be put in this position again. Otherwise it might just be better to just turn the site off and not bother.
It depends gromit whether the owners see themselfs as running the forum or just facilitating it
They could not have prevented the thread by the troll.
If Emmie is not dead( thankfully ), why have none of her friends received replies to their txt?
Maybe they have now.
Her phone's switched off?
They need to decide.
Anyone in business who has premises or a site are obliged to run it properly and not leave it to be like the wild west. As I said, they have responsibilities.
Everyone is entitled to an holiday, but measures should be taken to ensure that there is cover and overseeing by a nominated person while they are away.
Some members are friends with emmie off of this site, so the cruel hoax was spotted and dealt with. Emmie is in hospital so is entitled to some peace.
Hope for her quick recovery and hope she is not deterred from returning.
So am just wandering what you think the Ed have done if he/she were here... do you mean remove the thread immediately it was posted ? For how long?
Bobbinwales,
People obviously had their suspicions and tried to use the Report button, which was not being read. If it had, then the thread could have been closed and deleted a lot sooner, and less people would have been distressed by it.
