Successful comeback, or a flop.

I wonder which it will be.

Seeing as how the only original actor will be John Cleese, an actor who won't accept he's past it, I predict it will be a self indulging flop.

I think you're right Vulcan.
Depends what you mean by flop.

It will not be the same as Faulty Towers, the original cast and a non 'woke' script that was used will see to that.

The sort of humour we love and like is not allowed now. Just wait for the Twitteratii to set off.
Oh, and dont mention the war.
The proof of the pudding will be in the eating, Canary. It will most likely not be anywhere near as brilliant as the original (imho one of the best sit-coms ever) but if it raises a few laughs, then why not?
As an aside, Camilla Cleese would actually be a cheese had Cleese's father not changed his surname when enlisting in the army during WW1.
'Remakes ' of classics whether comedy or Drama are never any good .

However in this case , given that there is one of the original actors to be in the remake -you never know

I'll wait and see what comes out of the oven
By the way anyone knows what's happening to the new series of Frasier ?

I understand that Nicholas Lyndhurst is in it
He should totally ignore today's pathetic sensitivities and make it funny and to hell with whoever it offends.
^
It wouldn't be shown if he did that, Dave, unfortunately. Cleese is one of those more aware of 'wokeism' than many in his traded.
'trade' not traded!

Cleese complains about being unable to be rude about other people (e.g. the Germans), but is quite offended by the Press being rude about him. Bloody hypocrite.
one of the portents of spring is Cleese raging about cancel culture in interviews that run in full and mysteriously never get him cancelled.
Ah but there's a difference, Canary. One is general mickey-taking of a nation - Scots being heavy drinkers, Jews being tight with money, etc, etc, etc - the other is personal attacks.
The Cleese family name originally was Cheese

////but there's a difference, Canary.//

So that's all right then.
GG, i mentioned that in my 09.55 post.
I can see you're in a ';chippy' mood today, Canary, so i'll not bother you again.
The phrase 'Never go back .. ' is good advice in these situations.

The reasons why FT is so wonderful, is because they stopped at the top.

Same with The Office.

Do your very best work, stop, move on to something else, and don't let the impact and power of your original work be diluted by ever-weaker material.

The longer any artist's career goes on, the shorter the odds of providing sub-standard work get.

That's a simple fact of life - you cannot be brilliant all day every day, it simple doesn't happen, every artist of note has work that is below their best.

That's not to say that they can't carry on and re-gain those heights again, but part of the reason why early art is so successful is the energy and novelty and sheer 'newness' of making it, which cannot last.

It can evolve, but it cannot last.

So i think along with Frasier, this is a project doomed to endless comparisons, and sad failure, and that's a shame for all concerned.
This isn't a 'remake'. //The new series will “explore how Cleese’s over-the-top, cynical and misanthropic Basil Fawlty navigates the modern world”,// … which if he's allowed to criticise the world of the 'woke' could be entertaining. I'll give it a go.
"you cannot be brilliant all day every day"
speak for yourself! :)
