You can dial 159 on your mobile if you think you’ve been scammed. Just stumbled across this on Twitter.

Money Saving Expert article on the service here:

Excellent, Baz.
It was in the news in September 21 and my bank put it on their app about the same time. I added it to my phone contacts https://news.sky.com/story/uk-banks-launch-emergency-hotline-159-number-to-protect-customers-from-scammers-12420345
This is the latest list of banks using the scheme,

Barclays

Co-operative Bank

First Direct

HSBC

Lloyds (including Halifax and Bank of Scotland)

Metro Bank

Nationwide Building Society

NatWest (including Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank)

Santander

Starling Bank

TSB

No probs. Hopefully we'll all never have to use it, but......
It certainly is! Everyone should know about it
/// Hopefully we'll all never have to use it, but......///

A bit too late in my case, but as soon as the guy (who was masquerading as the security dept of my bank) asked for my CVC I smelt a rat and hung up. Then I rang my bank on the Card number and stopped the card. That of course is still bloody inconvenient as it deprives you of a card until the next one comes through the post which can take a week or more.

Incidentally my bank is not yet on the list, but I'll contact them and demand they join. Although I have heard that you can give the bank a password which they must use when they answer - not sure whether this is correct or not.
The cynic in me wonders how long it will be before the scammers etc work their way round this or even make it work to their advantage.
That's not cynical, it's almost inevitable.
