Following on from the What you are playing thread and that programme on TV the other night, what are your favourite piano pieces

To start, Rachmaninoff Concerto 2 in C Minor played by Khatia Buniatishvili, the Georgian pianist

Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto Number One - takes me straight back to a caravan holiday when I was about seven.

it has removed my linkage to the Rach 2 -

and then my blurb on Beatrice Berrut and her superb rendition of the for piano of the Mahler 5 symphony, the Adagietto.
Yes, that's one of my favourites too Andy. My current top favourite (really needs an organ, but I'll table it anyway) is Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

allowed - it's a keyboard, albeit a complex one and then add all those pedals and stops!
Mine is Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu which my father used to play when we were all together in my grandmother's sitting room. He played it better than his brother who was a music teacher!!

On my list and such a contrast to the Chopin, the Estonian Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel for piano and cello - can be played as a piano solo.

And then Beethoven's 5th Concerto, Khatia again

Brahms Piano Trio no. 1...makes my heart ache.

And I've recently discovered this piano version of "The Moldau"...just as extraordinarily beautiful.



Then there's Chopin and Beethoven and Mozart and...and...
I quite like Alina Bercu's version of Beethoven's Emperor...

a limited repertoire, I would say, ladybirder.... my mother was seriously into choral and, apparently, was trilling away today. I haven't been able to visit as I am down with a fourth dose of this flu-thing....
