Why Are So Many Films And Dramas Filmed In Dark Rooms?

Sometimes it's difficult to see what's going on. When a character walks into a room why do they never put the big light on like any normal person would?

to add to the drama, for atmosphere, to make it more scary, what you cant see is often more scary

it's possible (seriously) that your eyesight isn't what it was. If it's your TV, does it allow you to adjust the screen?

Also when there is a knock at the door and they answer it and there is no one there, they step outside, walk down the path and have a look around leaving the door wide open behind them, who does that in real life?

I've noticed that too. Many scenes are so dark that it is perpetually night time!!!

Why is it when someone dials the number of someone else , the phone is answered less than a second after they finish dialling

human error and conflict is what drives stories forward - without them there not much drama, shows would be boring.
film makers have a very short time to tell a whole story so things are exaggerated to move the plot - and they dont waste that time with actors waiting for people to answer the phone or having a poo.

youd soon be moaning if you had to sit through stuff like that

For the same reason in cop shows when they are about to apprehend a suspect they always get about 20 feet away then shout the name so the guy can run and they can chase him.
