Aziraphales Clothes When He Was In The Bastile - Why Were They Wrong/Bad?
6 Answers
Why was Aziraphale's clothing - the pale suit etc - considered an extremely bad thing to be wearing when he was imprisoned in the Bastille?
It's was almost implied that is partly why he was locked up.
I'm assuming it's something to do with him being English, but the clothing of the period wouldn't necessarily be out of place in France at the time & also they were more old-fashioned than fashions at the time.
Anyone know?
Thanks :)

Aziraphale's clothing was a symbol of the English elite and of his privileged background. Being dressed in that style was seen as an affront to the French Revolution, which sought to overthrow the oppressive monarchy and aristocracy. As such, wearing such clothing would have been considered a sign of disrespect and could have been viewed as an act of defiance or sedition against the new regime, resulting in his imprisonment in the Bastille.
