did anyone else thing the ending was very disjointed, weird and unsatisfying?

It was, as you say, also a tad weird; the weirdest thing being the churchyard scene with the gun. I mean, it was obvious he hadn't......
Also obvious was the 'dream-scene' at the wedding reception.
What wasn't satisfactorily explained was why Fred Thursday's name never cropped up in any of the 33 episodes of 'Morse'?

Thursday's name is never mentioned in 'Inspector Morse' because he and his wife had to move away much further than the proposed move to Carshalton, so the biker gang would never be able to find him and exact retribution for what he did to one of theirs. Morse promised him that he would keep the secret - and so he did.
