Does This Defeat The Object Of Gaming Or Are Many Console Owners Like This?

I used to enjoy gaming when games where simple - sonic the hedgehog on mega drive and Mickey Mouse etc where my ideal games in the 90’s as they were 2D. I felt in control of the game and found it relaxing to play - just running and jumping with the cool background images where there wasn’t much going on provided an escape
Then games became 3D and you had to fire here there and everywhere I found it overwhelming and lost interest.
However this sounds odd but what I do enjoy are roleplay games where I don’t have to battle or think much and can watch the storyline most of the time and interact just to explore - dreamfall and Siberia where my favourites.
I was over the moon when I installed Harry Potter legacy and found a story mode - I do interact but it’s minimal and relaxing.
I feel a bit of an outcast or like an idle/lazy gamer for just purchasing games for the stories though.
Is this unusual? Or do you think game creators are aware of/cater for folk like me?
