He probably is, but since his downfall is completely self-created, it's difficult to feel any sympathy for him.

All that was required for him to stay in his career for the rest of his life, was the basic level of honesty most adults live with as a matter of course.

He singularly failed to manage that.

I do wish people would stop bandying 'paedophile' about willy nilly. It has a specific meaning and nothing I have read about Schofield suggests he is a paedophile.
Paedophiles are sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children (under 12/13, often very young) that look and act like young children, not older youths .
