Iv'e Received A Fare Bit Of Flack On Ab For My Alcohol Addiction
But also much support(For which I'm grateful)
Alcohol and drug services havn't been great.Been messed about multiple times. Was supposed to have had my name down for a detox a few months ago but it was never sent.I've persevered though and finally I'm down for a detox.
As a child, I was brought up in working mens clubs in the 70's when nobody batted an eyelid to kids drinking alcohol.
I was more or less dependent by the age of 20,
Since my time on AB I've been called allsorts for been honest about my addiction (like a few other ABers)
If you met me (as did Tilly a few years back) you would never had me down as an addict.(or even as an alcoholic)
Some on here have me down as permantely pickled. Also not true.
I once had a solicitor who stank of booze at 9:30 in the morning. He was defending me on a drinking charge!! Blind leading the blind, you couldnt make it up.
But he was middle class and I was a council estate kid. I got found guilty obviously.
I'm trying to get better...
Stop giving me flack.

Nailedit. If you decide to expose your personal life/ details on any media site, you will have to except that you will get flack and support, may be more of one than the other, sadly they go hand in hand. If you cant handle one or the other, then it may be a good idea to only expose such to those who are treating you for your problem.
I really do hope you can face your demons and defeat them, nailedit. I know you have suffered at the hand of others when you were young and vulnerable and those memories torment you to this day. Nothing that was done to you by someone else was ever your fault. You are not worthless. They are.
Next time you want a drink try to imagine one of those people from your past encouraging you to drink. Imagine them saying, "Go on, nailedit, drink it. You know you want to."
Then imagine looking them in the eye and saying, "Drink it yourself, you worthless piece of ****. I'm having a cup of tea."
//You have to want to fix it and take steps yoursel//
Which is prescisely why I have gone out of my way with phone call after phone call. Numerous calls to my GP etc...
Been asked to attend meetings which wernt on when I attended
Attending the next week to be told that I couldnt attend because i had 'markers' against my name.
Unreturned phone calls,
Nuerous support workers, some of whom i never heard off since an initial introduction...never to be heard from again.
No flack from me nailedit. I'm very understanding that you have understood your demon and want to 'nail it'! Seriously, that alone is a huge positive step.
Can I tell you about my day, please? We were up betimes for me to drive over 90 miles to my very dear brother-in-law's funeral (dropping off dog en route at kennels). B-i-L died painfully and at length from asbestosis - which was the result of exposure when he was a young car mechanic.
Not a great scenario. It has been hard, it has been emotional - but, now home, I can reflect that in a very strange way it has been a good day. There were so many people there who sorrowed.
Dave was a good bloke, fun, a laugh, would have a drink (or 6 or 7). He was also kind. People didn't want him to die.
In a way, this relates to you. You also have so many people rooting for you on here and we don't want you to die. Dave didn't have a chance of altering his fate. You do.
Please take it. It is a 'little by litle' effort - make each small effort.
Ive always had a drink issue. But always functioned.Never thought that it would become this bad.
I wake in the morning/afternoon and i'm sweating, shaking and got pains in my chest and dry wretching.
Its nearly 10 0clock at night and I'm dreading the morning.
Ive had so much to drink, and i have so much to come down from.
I was awake at 4 this morning and just awaiting the opening of then shop at 7 to buy a can!
Tell yourself that you won't buy it. Stick to it. Drink strong coffee or something - go for a walk. Remind yourself of why you wantto give up. Do what I suggested ages ago and write notices of why you want to stop and stick them all over where you liv e and carry one in your pocket.
Time to get yourself together and understand that it is up to you. You can choose - you are lucky.
