Having watched the full series on I-Player, I came to the conclusion that Savile would have gotten away with it even if he had been put on trial. That never happened of course.

I'm just at episode two and I think it's fantasically acted.  Coogan as Savile is expertly done imo.

I'm not so sure.  So many people were suspicious of him and rumours were rife.   Had the police made further enquiries after that young girl reported him others, including all those he worked with at various institutions, may well have spoken out.

Steve Coogan was superb, as was the actress who played Margaret Thatcher.

Without anything other than circumstantial evidence, I honestly doubt that a jury would have been able to come to a unanimous decision (maybe not even a majority one) resulting in a 'hung jury'. I also believe any retrials would end the same way.

John Lyndon told the BBC about Savile in the late 70,s and was promptly banned by the corporation

I'm pretty sure he would not.

I suppose that what makes this tough viewing for many: the fact he escaped. Would have been great to see the mask torn away

Wishful thinking from me perhaps, ken.  What a creature he was.

After Savile's death, Lyndon claimed in an interview with Piers Morgan that he was banned from BBC Radio for telling them about Savile's 'seedy behaviour' but this was the same time he released God Save The Queen.  He never really knew anything, he didn't witness anything and he wasn't a victim of Savile's.  Like many he 'knew' but knew nothing that could be proved.
