I have no idea what the question means

Careful roopower, you might tempt me to try and explain it :)

Buenchico- I don't think 'approaching 50%'  is that far out, given that there's only three choices. Anyone who didn't have a clue could guess and would have a 33 % chance of picking the right one.  But I reckon a fair number will have heard of quarks (wasn't there a song 'quark, strangeness and charm') and Higgs (well Higgs Bosun) because it was in the news maybe 10 years ago with teh hadron Collider, whereas gluon just sounds like a made up word most haven't heard of; so for many it's a 50/50 choice between quark and Higgs even if they just guess. And then there will be maybe 10% of people who know for certain it is Higgs, and they'll get it right.

So approaching 50% might not be too far out.

I would have known the answer.

I'd have said 'Quark' - it's  the only one I've heard of.

As a totally irrelevant aside, TTT, since you know everything, would you care to explain to us all what a gerund is and its uses?  I'd really love to hear your opinion - I know you can go and look it up, but you won't need todo that, will you? 😃

Ah! Apologies, TTT. I've read now that you were having a bath at the time.

I think with TTTs immense knowledge, he should be a Chaser.

...you don't know I'm not hoppy!

What would your nickname be?

Bradley Walsh would say "ah, it's Tory Boy today".

3 quarks for master Mark. Aye, initially Sandy, as far as I know. I think the physicists must have used it because what they were finding seemed as non sensible as his writing :-)

I have heard of quarks and the Higgs boson thingy but - and it's only a hyperthetical question - what is a fundamental particle with no spin? I've managed 72 years without knowing that, and squillions of other facts, so I'm not losing sleep that certain folk think I'm as thick as pig excrement.

I wondered if Joyce's coinage was related to the cheese of the same name. Both words appeared round about the same time
